Eligibility criteria
Educational qualification
| Post | Qualification |
|---|---|
| JE (Civil), Degree | Degree in Civil Engineering from a university established by law in India, or a qualification declared equivalent by the government |
| JE (Civil), Diploma | Diploma in Civil Engineering from a recognised institution, or a diploma in Civil Engineering recognised by the Institution of Engineers (India) for study-leave exemption |
| JE (Mechanical/Electrical), Diploma | Diploma in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from a recognised institution, with the same recognition rule as above |
All posts also require working knowledge of Hindi written in Devanagari script and knowledge of Rajasthani culture. Candidates in the final year of the qualifying course could apply, but they must obtain the qualification on or before the exam date, or they won't be eligible.
Age limit
Candidates must have completed 18 years and not turned 40 on 1 January 2027. The Board last counted age on 1 January 2025 for the earlier JE recruitment, so every applicant gets an extra 1 year of relaxation in the upper limit.
| Category | Relaxation in upper age limit |
|---|---|
| SC / ST / OBC / MBC / EWS men, Rajasthan domicile | 5 years |
| General category women | 5 years |
| SC / ST / OBC / MBC / EWS women, Rajasthan domicile | 10 years |
| Widows and divorced women | No upper age limit, but below the government retirement age |
| Ex-servicemen | Up to 15 years, as per the Rajasthan Civil Services rules |
| Persons with benchmark disabilities | 5 more years, on top of the category relaxation |
| Serving state government and public sector employees (substantive) | Upper limit of 40 years |
The relaxations in the first group are not cumulative: you get the benefit of only one of them. The 5-year relaxation for benchmark disabilities is the exception, because it is added to your category relaxation.
Nationality and other conditions
- You must be a citizen of India, or fall in one of the other categories listed in the notice (Nepal, Bhutan, Tibetan refugees or persons of Indian origin from specified countries, who need a certificate of eligibility).
- A male candidate with more than one living wife is not eligible. A woman who has married such a man is also not eligible.
- Candidates with more than two children born on or after 1 June 2002 are not eligible, subject to the exceptions in the notice.
- Candidates who took dowry at marriage are not eligible.
- You must be medically fit and of good character. A good-character certificate and police verification are needed after selection.
Can you apply for more than one post?
Yes, if you meet each post's qualification. You must submit a separate application for each post category.
Application fee
Candidates pay the One Time Registration (OTR) fee online, through an e-Mitra kiosk, CSC, net banking or a debit/credit card. Those who have already paid OTR do not pay again.
| Category | Fee |
|---|---|
| General, and creamy-layer OBC/MBC | ₹600 |
| Non-creamy-layer OBC/MBC (Rajasthan), EWS, SC and ST (Rajasthan) | ₹400 |
| All persons with disabilities | ₹400 |
- Candidates from outside Rajasthan are treated as General category, even if they belong to a reserved category in their own state, and pay the General fee.
- Correcting a submitted application costs ₹300 during the correction period.
- Challenging an answer key costs ₹100 per question.
- A candidate who skips two exams of Rajasthan recruitment agencies in a financial year can have OTR blocked, and must pay a penalty of ₹750 to restart. A second lapse in the same year carries a penalty of ₹1,500.
Reservation
- Vertical: SC, ST, OBC, MBC (5%) and EWS (10%), applicable to Rajasthan domicile candidates only.
- Women: 30% horizontal reservation, category-wise. Within it, 8% is for widows and 2% for divorced or abandoned women.
- Ex-servicemen: 12.5% horizontal reservation. Dependants of ex-servicemen don't get this benefit.
- Outstanding sportspersons: 2% horizontal reservation, for candidates with the specified sports certificates.
- Persons with disabilities: 4% horizontal reservation in the PWD and PHED posts, for the disability categories listed in the notice. Candidates need a permanent disability certificate (40% or more) and a UDID card.
The category in your application decides the benefit you get, and it cannot be changed after the correction period.
Exam pattern
The selection is through a single written objective paper. The scheme is the same for all three posts.
| Part | Subject | Marks |
|---|---|---|
| Part A | General Knowledge: Rajasthan history, art and culture, literature, traditions and heritage; Rajasthan geography; political and administrative system of Rajasthan | 40 |
| Part B | Technical subject: Civil Engineering (Degree), Civil Engineering (Diploma), or Mechanical/Electrical Engineering (Diploma) | 80 |
| Total | 120 |
- Duration: 2 hours, plus 10 extra minutes to check that every question is marked.
- Negative marking: one-third of the marks of a question for every wrong answer.
- Minimum qualifying marks: 40%. A candidate scoring less is not eligible for appointment.
- Five options: each question has options A to E. Fill bubble E if you don't want to attempt a question. If you leave all five blank, one-third of the marks are deducted, for up to 10% of the questions. Leaving more than 10% of questions with no bubble filled disqualifies you.

How to apply
- Log in to the SSO portal (sso.rajasthan.gov.in) with your SSO ID, open Citizen Apps (G2C), choose Recruitment Portal and click Apply Now.
- If you haven't done OTR (One Time Registration), complete it first and pay the fee. Enter your category, disability status and home state carefully, because the options available in the application depend on what you filled in OTR.
- Upload your latest photograph (taken within the last month), signature and thumb impression through OTR. The application picks these up automatically.
- Enter your visible body mark and select your educational qualification in the OTR dashboard. Documents go in the Document Details section.
- Choose your department preferences in the application, in the order you want them. This cannot be changed later.
- Click Final Submit. An application number is generated only after final submission, and a preview doesn't count as submitting. Keep a printout.
Use only your own mobile number, email and SSO ID. An application filled through someone else's SSO ID is not accepted, and details you entered in OTR can't be edited in the application. You can also fill the form through an authorised e-Mitra kiosk or CSC.
Documents for verification
- Educational certificates and mark sheets for the qualification you claimed
- Age proof and Rajasthan domicile certificate
- Caste certificate (SC, ST, OBC, MBC) or EWS income and asset certificate, issued on or before the last date of application and in the candidate's own or father's name (a husband's name is not accepted for married women's category certificates)
- Disability, ex-servicemen, sports, widow or divorce documents, where applicable
- NOC from the present employer, for those already in government service
- Marriage registration certificate and a declaration on the number of children, for married candidates
Selection and post allocation
- Appear in the written exam and score at least 40%.
- The Board prepares the merit list by category.
- Departments are allotted by Merit cum Priority, based on your rank and the department preferences you gave in the application.
- The departments verify documents, and you must pass the medical fitness test and character verification.
Selected candidates are appointed on a probation of two years. During this period they get a fixed monthly remuneration set by the state government, and no other allowances. After successful probation and confirmation, they move to the minimum of the pay level with allowances.
Preparation tips
- Don't ignore Rajasthan GK. It is 40 of the 120 marks and is the easiest part to score in, if you read from a Rajasthan-specific source.
- Prepare your technical subject in depth. It carries 80 marks, and for each post the subjects are listed topic by topic in the notice.
- Practise OMR-style marking. The five-option format, with E for skipped questions, can cost you marks if you forget it.
- Plan your department order early. Think about work profile, location and future postings before you fill preferences, because they are final.
- Watch the negative marking. One-third of a mark is lost per wrong answer, so don't guess blindly.
